Menubar Messenger Client is a client for Facebook Messenger that runs entirely on your Mac. The developer operates no servers, and the app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking.

What the app does not do

How sign-in works

On first launch the app opens Facebook's own login page in a window. You sign in there, directly with Facebook; the app never sees your password. After sign-in, the session cookies Facebook issues are stored in the macOS Keychain on your Mac and used to connect to Facebook's messaging servers on your behalf. Signing out removes them.

Data that stays on your Mac

To work as a messaging client, the app keeps the following only on your Mac, inside its sandboxed container and the Keychain:

Deleting the app, or signing out, removes this data.

Network connections

The app connects only to Facebook's servers (facebook.com and messenger.com domains) over TLS, using the same messaging protocol Facebook's web client uses. Your use of Messenger through this app is governed by Meta's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Notifications

With your permission, the app posts macOS notifications for new messages. Notification content is generated on your Mac from messages the app already received; it is not sent through any push service operated by the developer.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them. Facebook's own age requirements apply to the account you sign in with.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with an updated date.
